Summer has arrived at the Macmillan Unit, and with it, a season of colour, warmth, and life in our gardens. It is our favourite times of year, and thanks to the kind donations of our supporters towards the upkeep of our gardens, our patients and their loved ones can enjoy our beautiful outdoor spaces.
John, our Head Gardener, along with his dedicated team of volunteers, works tirelessly to keep our grounds looking their best. From the formal garden to the kitchen garden, the secret garden, the rose garden, and the many vibrant flower beds that surround the Unit, each space is lovingly tended to create a sanctuary of beauty and peace.
Our gazebos and canopies are in place, offering cool, shaded spots where patients can relax and enjoy the sights and sounds of summer. Many of these spaces are specially designed to accommodate patient beds, allowing everyone to experience the gentle breeze, the soothing sound of the waterfall in our pond, and the cheerful birdsong from the hedgerows—home to this year’s fledglings.
And of course, no summer would be complete without a few treats. Our freezer is well-stocked with ice lollies and ice cream, and our ‘jolly trolley’ is always close by with refreshing cold drinks to help our patients stay cool and comfortable.
