A concert held in West Moors has raised £1,557.60 for Macmillan Caring Locally which is raising funds to build a new unit at Christchurch Hospital.
Francesco Iannuzzo (tenor and keyboard), Daniela Ievolo, (mezzo soprano and saxophone) Dianne Tompkins (soprano) Christopher Legrand (bass/baritone) and John Porter (accompanist) performed two concerts entitled ‘Sunrise, Sunset’ to capacity audiences at St Martin’s United Reformed Church.
The varied programme which was compered by Rosemary Legrand and included items from Porgy and Bess, Fiddler on the Roof, Oklahoma, My Fair Lady, Showboat, and Don Giovanni as well as ‘The Flower Duet’ from Lakmé, Adagio (Albinoni), Magnificat, Tico Tico, Gabriel’s Oboe finished with ‘Tonight’ from West Side Story was described by one concert goer as ‘absolutely fantastic’ and concluded at the matinee in a standing ovation.
Commenting on the result, Christopher Legrand said: “We are overjoyed by the generous support we have received for this valuable and essential charity. It has been an honour to perform for this important cause.”
Macmillan Caring Locally, Community & Events Fundraiser Barry Wilson said “We were so pleased with how much the performance raised, they had such fantastic support that they were selling tickets to a second show before even performing the first. I think this shows the level these performers are at and clearly the pressure did not get to them. Having local people support a local cause is the staple to how we fund the care here at the Macmillan Unit. Thank you to Christopher, Francesco, Daniela, Dianne, John and Rosemary for their fantastic support.”
