Karen is a Registered Nurse, District Nurse and Health Visitor, and has worked locally as a practitioner and nurse academic for 30 years. Having started her nursing career in oncology and end of life care she has retained a keen interest in community based palliative care.

The ‘Mac unit’ is an important part of our local community providing care, in, and for Christchurch residents, close to home and family.

Karen has experienced the high quality and compassionate care of the Macmillan Caring Locally team as they have supported friends and family over the years and has completed a number of ‘big’ swims to fundraise for the unit. These include a solo English Channel and 20 Bridges, a circumnavigation of Manhattan Island, New York.

Karen was appointed to the Board of Trustees in 2024.
