He did it!! Our incredible Marathon Man completed all 27 marathons in 26 days – what a superhero! If you’ve been following our social media pages and reading our blogs, you will have seen that Paul O’Boyle smashed his £10,000 target by completing his incredible challenge. He finished his final marathon at the Mac Unit on Monday 26th October and was met by a emotional crowd of staff, volunteers, supporters, family, friends and tv / radio crews cheering him over the line. We are all in absolute awe of Paul and want to say another huge thank you to him for his amazing fundraising!
As we approach the end of a second lockdown, many of us have been wondering what our Christmas will look like this year. How many people will be sat round the dinner table? How much food do we need to buy? Can we get all the presents out to our loved ones? Christmas will be different for most of us this year but for our patients, their Christmas wish might just be to spend precious time with their husband, wife or children, cuddle their dog or simply hope that someone can help them figure out how to say goodbye. Our team have organised for many last wishes for our patients and you can read more about them in our Christmas Appeal which is launching very soon. If you are able to spare anything to help us make that last wish a reality – money that you may have spent on Christmas parties or dinners if COVID hadn’t put a stop to them – then please visit our website to donate or look out for the QR code on our appeal. Thank you.
On the subject of changes, you may have already seen that we have regrettably had to cancel the White Christmas Dip this year. We got together with Tommy and John, the superstars that organise this fantastic event each year, and tried to think of any way we could safely run the 2020 Dip but we sadly concluded that it just can’t be done within government guidelines and maintaining the safety of everyone involved. Some of you fabulous people have said that you are going to Dip in December anyway and do some fundraising for us – thank you so much! Please do remember though, that if you do want to do your own Dip, there will not be any lifeguards on the beach and you still have to comply with government COVID guidelines.
If you fancy a challenge but that shimmering sea just looks way too chilly, then don’t forget our Lace Up Challenge! All the information you need is on the website and thanks to everyone who has already signed up!
As ever, we are so grateful to every single one of you for your support. Whether it be donations, fundraising, kind gestures or simple kind words, it is all so very much appreciated. Our incredible team of nurses, doctors, volunteers and staff are battling on despite the incredible physical and emotional challenges that this second wave has brought on and we are so proud of their determination, positivity and selflessness in the face of adversity. A huge thank you from them and from us. Together we can get through this!!
Until next time….
